Rail tuck

One of the big problems of travelling by train these days is finding somewhere to have a cup of tea, a snack or even a full meal. There are fewer buffets on trains and in stations. But often, unknown to the traveller, there are cafés nearby offering good service.

So in association with Deltic Computers, we are launching a new website which will identify cafés near rail and tram stations or other rail installations. The site is currently under construction, but look out for developments at www.railtuck.co.uk

Any café recommended by an RDS member will get a free entry, but if a café wants to have an entry, it will costs £15, with £5 of the money going to RDS funds.

Just to give you an idea of what is needed, your editor's local station is Cambridge Heath in Bethnal Green, London. His recommendation for Railtuck is:

Immediately outside the station, turn left and cross Hackney Road at the traffic lights, walk along Cambridge Heath Road for about 100 yards. Cross the road by the first pedestrian crossing and the Mug of Tea is right in front of you.

Cheap food. Good fry-ups. Friendly and unpretentious. Egg, bacon and chips £1.70. Open Mon-Fri 0600-1630. Sats 0600-1300. Suns closed.

We are asking RDS members to identify a café and/or a fish and chip shop near their local station and send in details to railtuck@deltic.net
