Rail for the future

I was delighted by the turnout at the Delegates Meeting held in Birmingham on Saturday 4 November with 25 members braving the elements to attend.

It would probably have been about 30 had all those intending to come been able to overcome Railtrack and flooding problems. In addition to branch delegates, RDS president Mike Caton attended together with representatives from the passenger committee, national executive and Alix Stredwick from head office.

There was an overwhelming view that the title of our organisation should not be changed and the name Railway Development Society should continue as the official title but we should have an additional name easily identified not only by rail campaigners but the media.

There are three names which those at meeting recommended for consideration: Rail Action, Rail Future and The Rail Campaign

The issue was to be discussed at the national executive meeting later in November.

We must try and get this settled one way or the other so that we can move on to more serious campaigning issues. It was also agreed that we need new style stationery to give RDS a better image.

The existing stationery has served us well but it needs updating.
