Swiss
Railways are introducing a new 135mph tilting train next year for domestic services
– after several years of running international tilting trains. The
Intercity-Neigezug ICN will cut travel times by 15 minutes between east and
west Switzerland.
Until then, the 24 trainsets will be deployed around the system on a rigorous testing schedule. The seven-coach trains – each with a dining car – will be air-conditioned with an on-board passenger information system.
In first class there will be some compartments where business people can work.
Meanwhile, even without the challenge of Swiss geography, our East-West rail link is still bogged down in Bedford, years after the project should have been up and running.
