In a lighthearted but emotional speech, Steve Wilkinson marked his resignation from the post of RDS chairman which he has held for 10 years.
He joked that he would be retiring to “somewhere quiet like the Dome.” He said he had been a member of RDS or its predecessors since the early 1970s. And in a reference to some of the society’s recent disputes, he reminded people of the Biblical advice: “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” RDS president Michael Caton said Steve had shown great skill, patience and humour in reconciling conflicting views within the society which had emerged stronger thanks to his efforts. “He has done a marvellous job,” said Michael. “Particularly when he was in hospital one day and doing something for the society the next.”
