Following the Railwatch 83 report about integrating preserved railways back into the network, it appears there is growing pressure on the Nene Valley Railway at Peterborough to take on a local transport role, in some sort of partnership.
A long-standing “Crescent Link” plan exists to enable Nene Valley trains to reach the west side of Peterborough station by building a short chord line.
Railworld, which is also at Peterborough and is supported by RDS, has been granted £40,000 to allow it to develop further. Railworld is open to the public and aims to build a new showcase exhibition building as well as a conference centre and a rail-integrated transport theme park.
The present exhibitions include Rail and the Environment, a small rail industry showcase and a Global Rail Travel display, in association with Leisurerail. More details: Richard Paten, Director, Railworld, Oundle Road, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire PE2 9NR.
