The plans for this year’s RDS sponsored cycle ride got under way rather late, so that no sponsorship form was enclosed with the April Railwatch.
Some of the cyclists have relied for sponsorship almost exclusively on RDS members at a distance who have heard of the event through receiving a form with their Railwatch.
In case members who would have liked to sponsor a rider do not receive a form in time, may I suggest the alternative of sending a donation to one of the causes for which this year’s ride is seeking to raise funds.
The special theme this year is the campaign for the reopening of the Cambridge-Haverhill- Sudbury rail link. The Cambridge-Sudbury Rail Renewal Association (a corporate member of RDS) is urgently in need of funds for a feasibility study. Donations should be sent to the Honorary Treasurer, CSRRA, 13 Longleaf Drive, Braintree, Essex CM7 lXS.
The ride also seeks to raise money for the Rail Defence Fund, available for urgent local campaigns to oppose threats to rail services. Donations for this should be sent to Trevor Garrod, General Secretary, RDS, 15 Clapham Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk NR32 lRQ.
If you want to take part in the ride which will converge from various starting points on Haverhill, Suffolk, on 8 July, please contact Clara Zilahi (tel: 01366 383954) or Andy Hoines (email: ACH39310@ggr.co.uk).
Lunch will be at the Rose and Crown, Withersfield Road, Haverhill.
