Britain’s newest level crossing

This level crossing in Dunstable, Beds, was laid on an intact rail line which the local council seems determined to shut. Instead of clearing the way for trains on the Luton-Dunstable line, Luton Borough Council – home of Vauxhall Motors – is still clinging to its obsession with converting the line to a busway.

RDS has worked with Friends of the Earth and campaign group ADAPT to press for a rail option to be in the Local Transport Plan, but officers are unwilling even to consider and discuss a rail option in their LTP, or talk to the SRA about funding.
