Two new RDS reports

These two new RDS reports will be crucial in our campaign to create a railway fit for the 21st century. The second of our Easy Rail Travel pamphlets, entitled To and From the Continent, is aimed at convincing planners and rail managers how important it is for our rail links to mainland Europe to be given the same protection as domestic services. The pamphlet, compiled by David Croot, calls for the Strategic Rail Authority to get involved. It covers the current marketing and ticketing strategy and suggests improvements. To and From the Continent costs £2.

An Electrified Railway? considers the case for more electrification in Britain and argues that there should be an official policy on the subject. It points out that almost all mainland European countries have electrified their main routes and asks the question: Why should Britain be different? It calls on the Strategic Rail Authority to formulate a policy on electrification and promote it as far as possible. It urges a strategic view Ð calling for present projects to take into account the fact that electrification may follow. An Electrified Railway? costs £2.25.
