| CROYDON: Trams should be test running in May and with luck the system should be operational in November. East Croydon station, which already has Thameslink and Connex main line services, will be further boosted as a transport interchange. London Travelcards will be valid on the trams. | NOTTINGHAM: The Adtranz-built Eurotram which already operates in Strasbourg will run on the NET - Nottingham Express Transit. The low-floor vehicles have a capacity of 200-plus passengers and a maximum speed of nearly 50mph. | WEST MIDLANDS: Midland Metro Line 1 should open on 14 June but the trams are already appearing. This is the scene at the Western Street stop in Wednesbury, near the Metro operations centre. The trams link Birmingham Snow Hill and Wolverhampton. Sadly, because the Government has been reluctant to help with grants, plans to build Line 2 (Snow Hill to Five Ways) and Line 3 (Brierley Hill to Wednesbury) have been shelved. |
