Save Our Railways is a loose alliance funded by the rail unions and the Local Government Association, originally formed to campaign against privatisation, and more recently monitoring the privatised industry.
The alliance was planning to disband this spring and its secretary approached RDS in the autumn of last year. There was no question of a merger, for Save Our Railways has no formal membership, but a database of over 1,000 supporters.
Agreement appeared to be reached on an arrangement whereby Save Our Railways supporters would be invited to join RDS (though some are already members) and RDS would take charge of the library of files and reports collected by Save Our Railways.
We were then informed in late January that the Steering Committee of Save Our Railways had decided to continue in existence after all. Therefore the two organisations will continue to campaign separately.
