RDS is launching a new service for members which should provide up-to-date information on rail fare bargains.
Anyone who has an email address can receive a free weekly bulletin about current offers.
Members will be encouraged to share details of bargains they are aware of. By working together we can save money and encourage rail travel.
It is our contribution, however small, to reintegrating the network. We want the SRA to take publicity seriously.
Since privatisation, it has been extremely difficult to get accurate rail travel information. Train operators have publicity campaigns but only promote their own services. There are some good offers around but few get to hear about them.
At the time of writing, both London-Scotland routes offer return tickets for £29-30 and most routes from Paddington are covered by a two-for-the price-of-one deal sponsored by a national newspaper.
But by the time you read this most of the offers will have expired. To get round the problem, RDS is co-operating with A to B magazine in setting up the Railwatch internet guide which will include integrated tickets, and connecting buses or ferries.
RDS is paying the relatively small initial charge for the service to be set up. We hope to move on to providing the information on web pages.
