An international agreement which was to be signed in April has been exposed as a perfect vehicle for multinational companies to prevent governments throughout the world taking action to encourage environmentally friendly transport.
The Multinational Agreement on Investment, negotiated in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development will give companies more power at the expense of individuals.
It would enable companies like Ford, General Motors and Exxon to curb pollution on the basis that they could affect their business. RDS is joining an alliance of voluntary organisations in a bid to get the agreement amended or abandoned. So far the British Government has not been pro-active enough.
