Slow down — you‘re going too fast!

RDS has signed up to the Slower Speeds Initiative which is also being backed by the Environmental Transport Association, the Cyclists‘ Touring Club, the Pedestrians‘ Association and other groups.

One in 14 children are now likely to be involved in road accidents, cyclists have 10 times the casualty rate than those in Denmark where traffic has been slowed, and many drivers are intimidated by others who insist on driving too fast. But cars can be fitted with variable speed limiters to force them to comply with speed limits.

In Aachen, Germany, traffic lights change to red when a speeding driver is detected. In Graz, Austria, casualties have been cut by 25% by slowing down traffic. As well as bringing direct social benefits to everyone, including reducing the amount of air pollution, slowing down road traffic.
