The campaign to reopen the line to St Andrews has been given a boost, writes Jane Ann Liston.
The pump was primed by a £150 grant from the RDS Re-openings campaign and this sum was matched by a cheque from RDS Scotland.
With other donations, STARLINK now has £850 to put towards a feasibility study.
This will cost upwards of £15,000 but it is clearly the place of Fife Council and the rail industry to provide most of this. Groups of people who are potential passengers for a St Andrews service include tourists (St Andrews is the most visited place in Fife), university-generated travellers (students, visiting academics and conference attendees) and commuters to and from the town.
Unlike most places in Fife, St Andrews has more people travelling into work than commuting outwards — a net difference of 2,500.
We hope Fife Council, ScotRail and Railtrack can agree sooner rather than later to provide funding for a study.
