Nat Taplin's aim is to help RDS volunteers be more effective in campaigning for rail.
Nat grew up in Oxfordshire's Cherwell Valley, just over the field from the Oxford to Birmingham main line. He travelled to school by train in the days when bikes went free.
While studying drama at Hull University, Nat developed an interest in issues of life style and environment.
He spent two years in Manchester working for an educational charity, organising everything from training days to environmental weekends.
Nat's latest job was as development officer for Conscience — The Peace Tax Campaign, where he increased membership by over 30%.
Nat has also worked as a volunteer at Green Alliance, Global Action Plan and Transport 2000, and found time to do an environmental course with the Open University.
"I am attracted to RDS because it has very focused objectives, but its implications for our society, economy and environment are very great,"says Nat.
"There is widespread popular support for the railways, which does not get the voice it deserves. RDS is that voice. I want to help make sure it gets heard."
Nat's commitment to a sustainable transport system goes beyond his choice of work - his home is on a canal boat in Oxford.
